Pet Passports

You cannot use a pet passport issued in Great Britain. Only passports from the following locations are accepted:

  • EU countries
  • Andorra
  • Faroe Islands
  • Gibraltar
  • Greenland
  • Iceland
  • Liechtenstein
  • Monaco
  • Northern Ireland
  • Norway
  • San Marino
  • Switzerland
  • Vatican City State

Traveling from Great Britain to Northern Ireland

For those with a pet passport issued in Northern Ireland, consult your vet before traveling. Be sure to read the rules about taking pets to Northern Ireland on the NIDirect website.

Arrival in the EU or Northern Ireland

Upon arrival, you’ll need to pass through a travelers’ point of entry and present your pet’s documents, which include:

  • Animal Health Certificate or Valid Pet Passport
  • Microchip Proof
  • Rabies Vaccination Record
  • Tapeworm Treatment Proof (if required)

Repeat Trips

For each trip to an EU country or Northern Ireland, your pet will require a new animal health certificate. If your pet’s rabies vaccinations are current, no repeat vaccination is necessary. However, dogs will need tapeworm treatment for each trip if traveling to specific countries mentioned above.
